Domain Name Reseller
From reading the resell domains page, you now know the enormous potential you have on your hands. Clearly, you can advertise your reseller domain site anywhere. I do it and although the conversion rate isn't high, the money I make is much more than I would have made from a PPC program such as Adsense or Chitika. To increase your conversion rate, try to keep your ad messages as simple as possible. Easy and understandable sells. Foreign words don't. For instance, "website name" is a better term than domain name. Although you won't be using the technical jargon, you'll reach a broader audience.
Another business idea is to buy domains that you are going to sell from yourself. The transfer will stay in your reseller account unless the buyer chooses to pay. Usually, the buyer ends up leaving the domain in your account so by selling a domain name, you actually made money on top of the transaction. Also, you can gain a customer base by referring your family and friends. I know I downplayed this on the domain registration reseller page, but that was in the context of you being lazy on your marketing and trying to make a workable business from close referrals.
When you get the actual domain for your registration page, make sure to get a decent one. Professionalism and reputability matters a lot to many people purchasing a website. There are too many reseller registrars out there with lacking domains. I don't want to call anyone out, but I do recommend you include keywords and get a reputable sounding domain. You can see my domain registration domain is at a new extension, but the keywords can't be beat and outside of domainers, a regular buyer probably won't be thwarted by the .us
Setting Up Your Reseller StoreFront
As you know, I went with Godaddy - Wild West Domains. When I was reading up on becoming a domain name reseller, I saw a lot of people complaining about paying to make Godaddy money, but that's not the way I see it at all. From my point of view, Godaddy is giving you a ready made store kit with built in marketing, products, and professional 24 hour live customer support for $200. That's a pretty damn good deal if you ask me and I'll discuss it a little more when I talk about the cheapest domain reseller. Before making my purchase, my main concern was being able to customize the homepage. I didn't like the way some of the colors looked or the generic pictures of people I had seen on other domain name resellers.
I was pleasantly surprised with the ability to customize the colors, header, photo, footer, and text. You can't redesign the base template unless you create your own site design, but this wasn't a problem for me as I wanted an instant store front without investing a lot of time. Plus, it is strongly modeled on the Godaddy website itself and is pre-marketed to make sales and convert upsales like web hosting, email, website tonight, SSL, etc. Another positive experience I have had is the customer support for helping with questions involving creating the store is very quick. I've emailed them only twice for info I couldn't easily find and received replies within 1-2 hours.
One problem with a ready made reseller template is you can't really optimize it for search engines outside of the footer and possibly header text. I think this goes for whoever you go with. Obviously, if you build your own template, that's one option. Great for making you distinct and stand out with SEO capabilities, but definitely time consuming. My search engine optimization answer is just to build backlinks which is most of SEO anyways. Oh, but one thing you can do is set your title and meta tags when you redirect from your domain name that you want to use so the URL you are given is masked. I highly recommend you mask the URL. Don't worry, it's very easy to do. If you need help, just email me.
You can see my seller site on the domain registration link above. After about an hour of playing with the colors and options, it was live on the Internet. Now that you have a nice background on the pros and cons of reselling domains, let's look at a break down of domain name resellers and the different packages and plans that allow you to sell domains.
